Starter Kit For Applying For Social Security Disability Benefits

The Disability Starter Kit will help you get ready for your disability interview or online application. Kits are available for adults and for children under age 18.

The starter kits provide information about the specific documents and the information that will be requested from you.  During your interview or when you complete the online Disability Report, more information may be required in order to complete the documentation.

The kits also provides general information about the disability programs and the decision-making process that can help take some of the mystery out of applying for disability benefits.

Fact sheet that answers questions most people ask about applying for disability benefits, Checklist of documents and information we will request, and Worksheet to help you gather and organize the information you will need.

If you are more comfortable speaking in a language other than English, a free interpreter service will be provided upon request to conduct your Social Security business. This service is available when you talk to a representative by phone or in a Social Security office.
